Regional Water Day

This year, for the first time since its inception, GWP-SA organised a Regional Water Day on the 11th of July 2006, a day prior to the start of the Annual Consulting Partners meeting held in Gaborone, Botswana on 12 and 13 May 2006. The meeting, which serves as the annual general meeting of GWP-SA partners in the southern African region was hosted by the Botswana Country Water Partnership.

The Regional Water Day was held in order to give regional stakeholders a chance to understand and appreciate ongoing initiatives in sustainable water resources management in the region. Thus GWP-SA invited a number of regional partners to showcase their work, books and any information in a mini water fair; or to make presentations on the work that they are doing in the region. The Regional Water Day also aimed to:

• Explore integration opportunities amongst various regional partners undertaking regional initiatives.
• Increase overall understanding of the progress of various regional initiatives in the region
• Disseminate opportunities created by various players promoting sustainable water resources management to other players in the SADC region
• Create a platform for regional partners to share experiences, to network and to encourage collaboration
